About the event

We all know that dogs have an amazing ability to detect the most subtle of smells, but did you know you can compete in this? Scent Detection is one of the fastest growing K9 sports. Whether you want to compete or you just want to understand more about the K9s ability - this session will give you the opportunity to find out more.

Putting it simply scent detection challenges the dog to locate an odor and then to communictae to the handler that they have found it! As your dog progresses the hides (location of the odor) become more challenging requiring the handler to play a part in helping the dog and interpret a situation.

Scent detection requires the dog to focus their attention on the olfactory process (their nose), and work through distratcions. It provides mental stimulation, and can help build confidence in dogs. It is a great sport for older dogs or dogs with injuries that prevent them taking part on other activities.

TailWaggersK9Sport offer training at multiple levels as well as trials in scent work

We know life gets busy and here in Canada we look forward to the Spring and Summer when we can get outside - our bi-weekly classes, allow for you to enjoy some time in between training, for practice, for walks and or just to enjoy the summer time with other activities. It is also great for shift workers (if you are looking for weekly - please let us know).

Level 1 - will focus on ensuring our dogs understand the odor that we are looking for (imprinting), will be working on container searches, and building alerts.
