About the event
Intro to Sport Scent Detection
This introductory course is designed for teams new to sport scent detection or those looking to build strong foundations.
Dogs will begin imprinting on target odour and learn that finding scent is a rewarding and enjoyable game. We will introduce the early stages of alerts, encouraging dogs to communicate clearly when they have found odour, without pressure for precision or duration.
The primary focus of this course is container searching, allowing dogs to develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and independence while learning the basic mechanics used across scent sports.
Handlers will gain valuable insight into canine body language, learning how to recognize changes in behaviour as the dog encounters odour, works through scent puzzles, and makes decisions. This understanding is key to supporting the dog throughout their scent detection journey and beyond.
