We are honoured to welcome Kim Cooper, a highly respected and experienced canine professional, for an in-depth seminar on the deployment of human remains detection (HRD) dogs in archaeological contexts.


Kim Cooper owned and operated Best Friends Dog Training in Ottawa for 31 years, where she taught tracking, search and rescue, and scent detection classes and clinics. She has been a Search and Rescue dog handler since 1991 and a cadaver dog handler since 2007.

Most recently, Kim has been involved in canine archaeology surveys at Indian Residential Schools, searching for the odour of historical unmarked graves. Over her career, she has been partnered with six K9s and has earned operational accreditation through the OPP, FEMA, RCMP, and the North American Police Work Dog Association.
