About the event
We all know that dogs have an amazing ability to detect the most subtle of smells, but did you know you can compete in this? Scent Detection is one of the fastest growing K9 sports. Whether you want to compete or you just want to understand more about the K9s ability - this try-it session will give you the opportunity to find out more.
Putting it simply scent detection challenges the dog to locate an odour and then to communictae to the handler that they have found it! As your dog progresses the hides (location of the odour) become more challenging requiring the handler to play a part in helping the dog and interpret a situation.
Scent detection requires the dog to focus their attention on the olfactory process (their nose), and work through distratcions. It provides mental stimulation, and can help build confidence in dogs. It is a great sport for older dogs or dogs with injuries that prevent them taking part on other activities.
We will be opening regular training sessions, post the try-it sessions.
